It’s the most eagerly-anticipated battle in Meguiar’s history, and we’re only just getting started! In case you missed the news last week, we’ve decided to put two of our most-tattooed employees in a competition appropriately named ‘Tom vs. Dale’. The concept is simple; both get a set budget and the same tools at their disposal to create two separate Meguiar’s demo vehicles. Then, when it’s all said and done, we’ll leave the voting up to you guys.

Just like his approach to Poker, Tom has gone ahead and shown his hand early on… but you know what? It’s a MIGHTY hand at that. What you’re looking at, somewhere under that 90s spectacular Dimma bodywork, is a 1988 Renault 5 GT Turbo. For our newer readers who might need a little history lesson, the Renault 5 GT Turbo was one of the founding pillars of modifying back in the 90s. Boasting a 1.4-litre, carb-fed & turbocharged engine, the Renault 5 GT Turbo could be taken upwards of 300bhp if you threw enough money (and headgaskets) at it. It was one of the cheapest ways to go fast, so much so you couldn’t even give ’em away. Oh, how times have changed…

Being such an icon of the 90s, the R5 GTT was subject to all kinds of wild modification over the years from the likes of Skeete, Carisma, K-Tec Racing and of course Dimma. Although acceptable in the 90s, it wasn’t long before this style of tuning fell out of fashion as people opted for a much smoother, subtle ‘euro’ approach instead. Fashion has a tendency of going full circle, and In 2018, we’re convinced it’s back once again. Depending on what Tom’s plans are with his build he could be onto a winner…

What do you reckon, does Dale stand a chance after this? Let us know in the comments below!
