Browsing through eBay at ‘potential’ projects is a right of passage for most petrolheads. We’ve all got that imaginary figure we could scrape together if need be (albeit selling every personal belonging in the process) allowing us to search with the intent of actually buying it. Granted, 99% of the time it will NEVER amount to an actual purchase, but it’s nice to imagine… right?

But every now and then something comes along which far exceeds even the wildest imaginary garage tucked in the back of a petrolhead’s brain. The sort of thing money can’t buy, a true piece of automotive history… albeit with an actual price tag courtesy of eBay. That award right now goes to the following eBay Auction, a 1988 Benetton B188 F1 car currently up at an almost reasonable $349,000 – just over £220,000 in sterling. But this isn’t some replica show-piece, it’s the actual car piloted by Alessandro Nannini that took 3rd overall in the drivers championship!

The downside? Well aside from the price, this particular piece of F1 history happens to be located in a little garage over in Japan. There’s also no mention of whether it runs anymore, and if not sourcing replacement parts for the Ford DFR 3.5l V8 is sure to be difficult… and pricey. But with 620bhp screamin’ at over 11,000rpm it’s got to be worth a punt for the millionaire in need of a little project… right?!
