The great thing about being a petrolhead is there’s literally something for everyone! Whether you’re the sort who likes to drive fast, get low or simply restore a car back to showroom condition, being a petrolhead gives you the opportunity to do anything you want with a car. And truth be told, there’s usually a club or group of like-minded enthusiasts to share that same passion with.

Since 1901 Meguiar’s has catered exclusively to these people. We are passionate about car care and that’s clear to see in every one of our products that, just like the automotive sector, caters for ALL your cleaning needs. It’s something we’re hugely proud of here at Meguiar’s UK, so once a year we like to celebrate this with a little get together…

For the past four years Meguiar’s has invited friends and enthusiasts along to our Daventry HQ in July for a day of chilled vibes, awesome machinery and good people. It’s a chance to enjoy car culture without the hustle and bustle (and cost) associated with a traditional event, centered around a lunchtime BBQ serving hot dogs and burgers. Not a bad way to spend a Sunday in July, right?

The Meguiar’s BBQ Club 2015 remained an invite-only event to ensure a wide range of cars attend without overcrowding the limited space at Meguiar’s HQ. Just about every marque and scene was catered for, from slammed VWs to American Muscle and even a 1970s Toyota Celica 2000GT! Kicking off at 10am on Sunday, the first 50 arrivals received Meguiar’s ‘Swag Bags’ with show regulars including the Forge Motorsport Mk1 Golf and Nick’s M3 Touring among the first arrivals.

Another familiar face was that of John Wilcox – owner at Penguin Speed Shop – who for 2015 brought along a seriously cool Chevrolet Impala lowrider fresh from paint, hopping and 3-wheeling it’s way round the entrance.

As always there was no entry fee and every car owner and guest received free BBQ food at lunchtime using the Meguiar’s VIP pass. This wasn’t your typical stale-bun show food either, but instead super-tasty British beef with a side helping of salad for those counting the calories!

Although being a chilled event with the emphasis on seeing and chatting to owners you wouldn’t usually see, every year Meguiar’s likes to choose a few stand-out cars to be given awards. 2015’s winners included:

Dean Meeson’s airbagged Lotus Esprit

GM Bodycraft Ford Escort

RIIVA Design Audi A6

Tru Rydaz Monte Carlo lowrider

The Install Company Mk5 Golf

Each winner received an awesome Meguiar’s trophy skillfully constructed and engraved by the team at Lasercut London. Check out more of their work by visiting www.lasercut.london

There’s no denying the Meguiar’s BBQ Club has been super lucky with the British weather in the past, and in 2015 (for the first time!) the English summer decided to deliver one of it’s lunchtime showers. But also in typical English fashion, the sun soon came along and dried out all the cars – giving people the perfect opportunity to show off their beading! Preempting rain when you’ve just cleaned your car is something all of us British petrolheads are all too familiar with…

But the greatest aspect of each Meguiar’s get together is the cars and people who come along. With such a busy show calendar it’s great to see so many enthusiasts taking the time and effort to come along, often driving for hours from across the country to join us (the burgers definitely help, though).

It’s one of the only events you’ll see cars and people from polar opposite scenes standing side by side, appreciating each others hard work and passion as petrolheads. For that, Meguiar’s is hugely humbled and grateful once again to host such a fantastic event, and we look forward to welcoming you once again in the future!
