RS500 Cosworth gets the finishing touch @ Meguiar's HQ
Regular readers of the Meguiar’s blog will already be familiar with Nicholas Pritchard’s incredible Ford RS500. Originally built by Martin Hardland @ Reyland, Nick purchased the RS500 and almost immediately dropped it round to Reflex Auto Design in Daventry for a full exterior re-spray and additional restoration. The end result is one of the countries most pristine Cosworths, and with a 450bhp stroked motor under the bonnet don’t expect this to be hidden under a blanket or trailered to shows!
With this in mind, Nick and the Reflex team wanted to give the RS500’s paintwork the best possible protection (along with the restored bodywork) before any proper miles were put on the clock. What’s more, with the car’s first outing to be at Players Classic on the Meguiar’s stand, it gave us the perfect opportunity to show just what kind of shine and finish can be achieved using the same products available online or at the show.
Truth be told, the paintwork was some of the best we’ve seen – a testament to the work by the Reflex Auto Design team. Seeing as a full paint correction wouldn’t be needed, the first process involved using Meguiar’s Ultimate Compound to finely polish and prep the paintwork ahead of waxing. Unlike traditional rubbing and polishing compounds that scour the surface, Meguiar’s Ultimate Compound uses new clear coat safe micro-abrasives to produce an amazingly clear finish that is free from scratches, hazing and swirls.
Nick’s RS500 also gave us the chance to use a prototype MT3200 machine polisher along with our new foam discs. We’ll be bringing you a closer look into this awesome machine very soon!
Paint prepped to perfection, it was time for the wax! As Nick intends to drive the RS500 as much as possible (including a European road trip) we opted for the Meguiar’s NXT Generation Tech Wax 2.0 – a durable wax which not only gives Nick a showroom shine, but also offers protection wash after wash from dust, dirt and other contaminants. NXT Generation Tech Wax 2.0 uses Hydrophobic Polymer Technology to create a barrier that makes water bead and glide right off, not to mention an unbelievably deep, vibrant colour and a stunning wet-look shine!
After just a few hours in the Detailing Bay Nick’s RS500 was polished, waxed and ready to hit the road! We can’t stress how immaculate this car is throughout, and we can’t wait to see it shining in the sun @ Players Classic this Saturday.
